The seminaries [note: at high school] commence again. Special seminaries have been introduced for us war graduates: Course A for all that back then had passed the skeleton exam, Course B for those who did not. In the morning, the Headmaster had organised a welcome ceremony for the returned war veterans.
AntwortenLöschenThis is somewhat surreal - some months ago Dieter would have endured shell fire of the worst kind, and now he is simply back at school. This is strange. He does not tell, but I am sure everybody would have been very mornful to see the ranks of the pupils, and how many must have been missing.
AntwortenLöschenDo girls like Dorchen or soldiers like Dieter still exist?
AntwortenLöschenI guess they don't! I see them (very few) only in my very old memories (about the 60's of the last century).
Hi Rocco,
AntwortenLöschengood to see you are with us. What do you mean by "girls like Dorchen"? Actually it seems that the way to spend free time back then differs a lot from what young people do nowadays.
But then again, did Dieter really write down everything? When he had a stroll with Dorchen only to return in the evening, well, google maps tells us that Hann. Münden is not thaaaat big... So what did they do some hours in the forest?
I could imagine that 2 years of constant danger to be killed in the next second to some extend turns off the habit to worry about tomorrow.
