Morgens Kaffee geholt, dann wieder feldmarschmäßig angetreten. Die Transportführer verabschieden sich von uns. Ebenso wie gestern hören wir anhaltenden Kanonendonner. Die Somme-Schlacht ist nämlich in vollem Gange. Vor unseren Augen spielen sich Fliegerkämpfe ab. Immer aufs neue steigen deutsche Flugzeuge auf. Die Luft ist voller Schrapnellwolken. Vor der Front sind wir 20km entfernt. Wir werden wohl nicht im Dorfe bleiben. In der letzten Nacht waren feindliche Flieger über dem Dorf. Auf eine kleine Bahnstation in der Nähe von Savy haben sie Bomben geworfen. Nachts schlafen wir wieder im Pferdestall. 
In the morning, we go for coffee, then fall in in marching order. The guides take their leave of us.Just like yesterday, we hear the constant thunder of artillery. The Battle of the Somme is in full swing. Before our eyes aerial dogfights are taking place. Again and again German aircraft climb up into action. The sky is full of shrapnel clouds. We are about 20 km from the front. No doubt we won’t be staying in the village.
Last night, enemy aircraft flew over the village. They dropped bombs on the little railway station near Savy. We again spend the night sleeping in the stable.
Le matin nous sommes allés chercher le café, puis rassemblement en ordre de marche. Les guides du transport nous quittent.Comme hier, nous entendons le tonnerre constant des canons. La bataille de la Somme bat son plein. Devant nos yeux se déroulent des combats aériens. Encore et toujours des avions allemands montent au combat. Le ciel est plein de nuages de shrapnel. Nous sommes à 20 km du front. Nous ne resterons sans doute pas dans le village.
La veille pendant la nuit il y avait des avions ennemis au-dessus du village. Ils ont lâhé des bombes sur la gare près de Savy. La nuit nous dormons de nouveau dans l’écurie.
Al mattino colazione e poi tutti in ordine di marcia. Le guide si congedano da noi. Proprio come ieri sentiamo il costante rombo dell’artiglieria. La battaglia della Somme è al culmine. Davanti ai nostri occhi vediamo combattimenti aerei. Aerei Tedeschi di continuo cabrano in azione di combattimento. Il cielo è pieno di nuvolette di shrapnel. Ci troviamo a circa 20 Km. dal fronte. Senza alcun dubbio non rimarremo nel villaggio.La notte scorsa aerei nemici hanno sorvolato il villaggio. Hanno lanciato bombe sulla piccola stazione ferroviaria vicino Savy. Di nuovo dobbiamo trascorrere la notte nella stalla.
