Well, unfortunately one must admit that almost more people run around in the back area than on the front-line. During the night, Hirson is attacked five times by aeroplanes. One bomb comes down in a court 50 metres from our quarters.

Together with all other soldiers that are accommodated here, I move over to the Spoon factory. All factory buildings are surrounded with barbed wire, and guards with rifles prevent anyone to get out. So we practically are imprisoned. Imagine, german soldiers are guarded by Germans! This is how far we got, to employ such measures for keeping together travelling or scattered soldiers.
