Erster Weltkrieg in Alltagsdokumenten: Europas virtuelles Gedächtnis – Europeana

Das Projekt „Erster Weltkrieg in Alltagsdokumenten: Europas virtuelles Gedächtnis – Europeana“ ist das Auftaktprojekt zur Erweiterung des Great War Archive-Projekts, das 2008 von der Oxford University mit großem Erfolg durchgeführt wurde. Das Great War Archive-Projekt gewann die Öffentlichkeit in Großbritannien zur Mitarbeit bei der Sammlung und Digitalisierung von persönlichen Erinnerungsstücken aus der Zeit des Ersten Weltkrieges.

Die europäische digitale Bibliothek Europeana greift die Idee dieses erfolgreichen Projekts auf und erweitert das Great War Archive um weitere am Ersten Weltkrieg beteiligte europäische Länder. In Kooperation mit der Oxford University werden bis 2014 in zehn weiteren Ländern Alltagsdokumente aus dem Ersten Weltkrieg digital gesammelt und über Europeana zugänglich gemacht. Start dieses mehrjährigen Projektes ist im März 2011 in Deutschland.

Das Projekt sammelt digitale Versionen von persönlichen Erinnerungsstücken und Alltagsdokumenten aus der Zeit des Ersten Weltkrieges (1914-1918). In der ersten Phase des Projektes liegt der Schwerpunkt auf deutschen Objekten: Briefe, Postkarten, Fotografien, Tagebücher und sonstige Erinnerungsstücke, auch Ton- oder Filmmaterial.

The First World War archive is based on an initiative at the University of Oxford where people across Britain were asked to bring family letters, photographs and keepsakes from the War to be digitised. The success of the idea – which became the Great War Archive – has encouraged Europeana, Europe’s digital archive, library and museum, to bring the German National Library into an alliance with Oxford University to roll out the scheme in Germany. The collaboration will bring German stories online alongside their British counterparts in a 1914-18 archive.

The project is collecting memorabilia and stories from the period of the Great War (1914-1918). This phase of the project is focussing on German items: letters, postcards, photographs and stories from Germany or with a German connection. Contributions can be made in two ways:

1. Via the project website - add a picture of the item or type in the story online.

2. At the project roadshow events - bring the item(s) to the event where project staff will photograph the items and record the stories that go with them

L'Archivio della Prima Guerra Mondialesi basa su un'iniziativa dell'Università di Oxford, per la quale agli Inglesi è stato chiesto di portare lettere familiari, fotografie e ogni tipo di ricordi di guerra per poterli digitalizzare. Il successo di questa idea - che divenne The Great War Archive - ha convinto Europeana, l'archivio digitale Europeo, la biblioteca ed il museo, a fare un'alleanza tra la Biblioteca Nazionale di Germania e l'Università di Oxford per lanciare la stessa iniziativa in Germania. Tale collaborazione, porterà le storie Tedesche online, accanto alle omologhe storie Inglesi, in un archivio 1914-18.


Il progetto raccoglie memorabilia e vicende del periodo della Grande Guerra (1914-1918). Questa fase del progetto si sta focalizzando su argomenti germanici: lettere, cartoline, fotografie e storie dalla Germania o connesse con la Germania. Si può contribuire in due modi:

1. Attraverso il sito web - inserire un'immagine dell'argomento o scrivere direttamente online.

2. Durante le mostre itineranti - portare i propri contributi direttamente. Il personale dello staff del progetto duplicherà i contributi e registrerà le storie che li accompagnano.
