1. Januar 1919

The new year begins. Will it bring any good to us? How long might it be until a peace treaty? Won't the victor's conditions be too hard or even unaccomplishable? All those are serious and scary questions. Hopefully, the new year will bring them all to a good end!

---

In the afternoon I visit one of my friends who is billeted at the Uckermann family, closeby in Vogelsang [road]. There I get to know the second oldest daughter Dorchen Uckermann, a nice and beautiful young girl who I like very much. She asks me to play the piano, and I gladly do her the favor. She provides me with two pieces of cake, but I can not eat a single bite. That's what comes of it when you get fed too well by your own host! Afterwards, I ask her to join us for a walk and to show us the surroundings of the town, her parents are fine with it and so the three of us get going. we have not walked very far, when we meet her sister and her female friend. They both join us. After finishing our very enjoyable promenade, we arrive back in Vogelsang in the darkness. I am invited to also spend the evening in the Uckermann house. So I return back there after dinner. The friend also returns, this time with her brother, and another young man is also with them. We spend the evening very pleasant, we have a good conversation, play parlour games, drink wine and only leave for home quite late in the evening. I do not mind, since I have a front door key with me. That was a real nice evening! I have even been accepted to the flute club, besides I have played the piano a lot. There was also a lot of dancing; unfortunately I can not yet dance. Dorchen and me accompany the friend and the two gentlemen quite a while on their way home and then return.

Titanium - David Guetta ft Sia - cover by ortoPilot

You shout it loud, but I can't hear a word you say - I'm talking loud, not saying much
I'm criticized, but all your bullets ricochet

you shoot me down, but I get up

I'm bulletproof, nothing to lose - fire away, fire away - ricochet, you take your aim fire away, fire away -
you shoot me down, but I won't fall - I am titanium
you shoot me down, but I won't fall - I am titanium

Cut me down, but it's you who'll have further to fall
ghost town and haunted love - Raise your voice, sticks and stones may break my bones
I'm talking loud, not saying much

I'm bulletproof, nothing to lose fire away, fire away ricochet, you take your aim - fire away, fire away
you shoot me down, but I won't fall - I am titanium
you shoot me down, but I won't fall - I am titanium

Stone hard, machine gun fired at the ones who run - stone hard, as bulletproof glass

You shoot me down, but I won't fall - I am titanium
You shoot me down, but I won't fall - I am titanium
You shoot me down, but I won't fall - I am titanium
You shoot me down, but I won't fall - I am titanium.

31. Dezember 1918

The old year draws to a an end. It has swallowed streams of blood and brought incredibly terrible sorrow to mankind. I am on night service in the post office. At midnight, I wish a happy new year to several acquaintances via telephone. Then I close down the shop and walk into the town. There is a bustle, a noise and screaming going on like in peacetimes. I meet some friends and acquaintances, and together we raise a glass to the upcoming year 1919, which now hopefully will soon bring us normal conditions. I do not stand it for long in the town; I go back to the post office and go to sleep there.

Poi chiudo bottega e vado in città. Non mi trattengo molto in città; torno all'ufficio postale e vado a dormire.

26. Dezember 1918

----

The post office girls gave a great christmas surprise to us. While we are placed into the telegraph room, they shove around some tables, put a decorated chritmas tree with candles onto one table and arrange some presents for each one of us three.
Finally, we are let in. We all gather around the tree and sing christmas carols. Afterwards, we admire the gifts intended for us and heartily thank all the post girls. Each one of us received cake, nuts, apples, cigars, cigarettes, a souvenir of Münden and other small things. Joy is great amongst us! Now we put up the coffee table. Cake is available in large quantities. Unfortunately I can not eat a lot of all the fine things, since I have already been coddled a lot by my hosts with all those delicacies. The post girls could not have been more gracious and appreciative.

C'è grande gioia in noi!

From the regimental chronicles: at 12:00 p.m. the remains of the regiment reached Flensburg. It only was a little band. Many had received the discharge they had asked for during the march. The reception at Flensburg was warm and heartily. An enormeous amount of people crowded the streets and many eyes were in tears, since the loved one was not among us. Flags greeted. On the Südermarket, First Mayor Todsen welcomed the regiment in the name of the city and handed a laurel wreath to Major von Drigalski. Then the last march came. On the barrack court the Commander addressed a word of farewell, the fallen comrades were commemorated. Now the rifles were put aside and all other weapons were handed off. The comrades, who had stood together in misery and death for years, dispersed into all directions.

The proud regiment "Königin" ceased to exist.

The first day of Christmas is very satisfying, and the nice Christmas lunch really tasted delicious.

24. Dezember 1918

I do celebrate Christmas Eve together with my hosts, who gently offer me several little presents. Mrs. Ludwig presents me a tie, 10 cigarettes and other little things. I really have a superb life here and almost can not stand all the little cookies and other sweets that they constantly slip me. Together with the nephew, we play christmas carols, and the evening is very harmonic. I also visit the Brinck familiy in the 1st floor, to wish a merry christmas to them. With a deep inner satisfaction I, notice the vast contrast to war christmas in the past two years.
