Nachmittags machen wir mit unserem Zug eine Spazierfahrt ins Weltbad Ostende. Die Stadt selbst bietet durchaus nichts Interessantes; Dagegen ist der Strand sehr schön. Mächtige Hotels und Kurhäuser ziehen sich an der Strandpromenade entlang. Einige von ihnen sind durch Artilleriebeschuß durch die Engländer von der See her beschädigt, so z.B. das große Hotel „Atlantic“.
Am Strand haben die Deutschen hier und da große Küstengeschütze eingebaut; ebenso sieht man mächtige Scheinwerfer. Vor dem Kriege muß ein ungeheurer Badebetrieb in Ostende gewesen sein. Wer von uns hätte je gedacht, einen Blick auf die Nordsee von Flanderns Küste aus zu werfen? Da wir lange nicht gebadet haben und die Gelegenheit hier günstig ist, besinnen wir uns nicht lange und nehmen ein erfrischendes Bad. Abends fahren wir wieder nach Beernem zurück.
In the afternoon we take a train ride ito Ostend. The city itself offers absolutely nothing of interest; On the other hand, the beach is very beautiful. Huge hotels and spas line the beach promenade. Some of them are damaged by artillery bombardment by the British from the sea, such as the great hotel "Atlantic".On the beach, the germany have built large coastal guns here and there, and powerful headlights. Before the war there must have been huge bathing in Ostend. Who would have ever thought of us, to have a look at the North Sea coast of Flanders ? Since we have not had a swim for a long time and the opportunity is good here, we take a dip. In the evening we drive back to Beernem.

Nel pomeriggio prendiamo un treno per fare un giro a Ostenda. La cittànon offre assolutamente nulla di interessante; d'altro canto, comunque, la spiaggia è molto bella. Grandi alberghi e centri termali delimitano la passeggiata a mare. Alcuni di essi sono danneggiati dai bombardamenti dell'artiglieria Inglese proveniente dal mare, come il grand hotel "Atlantic".Sulla spiaggia i Tedeschi hanno piazzato grandi pezzi di artiglieria costiera e potenti riflettori. Prima della guerra devono esserci stati grandi stabilimenti balneari a Ostenda. Chi avrebbe mai detto che avremmo visto la costa del Mare del Nord dalle Fiandre? Dato che è tanto tempo che non ci facciamo una nuotata e l'occasione è ghiotta, ci tuffiamo. La sera torniamo a Beernem.
