Heimkehr

Heimkehr

the return home
We now head homewards happily again
enthusiastic greetings meet returning men.
Father, son, aunt, all rejoice with mother,
sister, uncle, relatives and brother.

französische Panzer

French tanks really are a hoot
So teeny wee and awfully cute
They often put on show the captured ones
So we can all laugh at these mighty guns

Rückkehr

DEU
GB FRA IT

Direct from conquered France they come
in Freiburg they are welcomed home
with cigarettes,  and sweets, and cherries,
and cakes and blackcurrants in showers,
with water, sausage, raisins, berries,
wading in a sea of flowers.

Light flak stays mostly under covers
but the day arrives for it like others,
for cleaning, oiling, lubricating,
for dismantling and painting
then there's a glorious chaos and
it sets off to the enemy's land

Franzosen

The French are infinitely thick -
Why do they let us take a stick
and thrash their morning-coated bums
instead of laying about us ?
The riddle's answer is not clear
But our response is one loud cheer

Waffenstillstand

Cease-fire with France

Hope gives happiness to man,
His joy returns where it began.
But if it takes him unawares, he
gets, to top it all, quite crazy

Durchmarsch

Mountain troops with ponies head
westwards in crowds like giant herds
to capture the Vosges ridge is their intent
and each man to defend himself to the end

So conduct of the war is right
the anti-tank gun is quite vital
Hitched to lorries many such guns have found
Their way through our town.

The Blitzkrieg is well known to us indeed
Engines help conquer enemy land at speed
But do beware, when they are then set free,
there's no resistance to their wild careering
Through the narrow streets of folk like you and me,
So run, instead of strolling, stopping, staring.

"Better safe than sorry" they advise,
and so that you avoid the airmens' eyes
the German forest is the place to hide
and paint yourself both brightly-hued and pied.

Churchill

England's lying is well-known and
Churchill is cursed through all the land
Already arguments around us storm
Which mode of death's for him, when it's his turn?

Italien

For weeks the press has seen what is to come
with gossipy enthusiastic tongue:
“A neutral Italy we’ve had for far too long
No longer do we want to be alone.
The empire is both strong and large enough
to be enraged at England’s so-called toughs”
Whoever doubted Rome’s great loyalty
should take a careful look and see:
the Axis is both strong and firm
and Rome’s neutrality was a most useful arm.

Angriff auf Norwegen - Weserübung II - Narvik

Narvik was quite a nut to crack
But all those heroes have our thanks
the work of heroes was their fight
their heroism rings out right
throughout the world and to us too.
My Dad admires their derring-do,
though they’re just guys from Austria
no men match up to what they are .

Juni wieder besetzen.

In order to strengthen their forces in France, Allied troops were pulled out of Norway from the 24th May - at a point when it would only be a question of time until German troops would have capitulate,   This is why the German army could re-occupy Narvik on the 8th of June.
