Dieter war im I. Battailon/ 3. Korporalschaft.

Via a forum, I managed to find a picture depicting soldiers of the 16th platoon / 3rd battalion of the reserve regiment of Castle Sonderburg in Alsen in North Schleswig.
Dieter was in the 16th platoon / 3rd battalion. The photo has not been dated, but it should have been taken around the time of 1916, showing soldiers during basic training. The recruits seem to be very young, for some of them the uniform really does not seem to fit..... This way, year after year of young people was sacrificed to the war.
Dieter is drafted at the age of 18. November 23rd, 1916, he tells how the recruits are sent from the barracks directly to the front, ordered by age. There seem to have been scruples in the beginning to sent such young soldiers into the fight.
When Dieter will be drafted again ina few days, he will belong the the old-timers. Let's see, what experiences he will collect......
