Wir siedeln nach Bonn über. Bonn ist vor allem eine Villenstadt wie es scheint, eine Stadt für wohlhabende Leute. Mit zwei Kameraden wird mir ein Quartier in der Weberstrasse 90 bei einer Offiziersfrau zugewiesen. Der Mann und der Sohn sind beide Offiziere. Man weist uns in eine Dachstube, in die man 3 Strohsäcke gelegt hat. Die Möbel sind zum Teil entfernt; aus den noch vorhandenen hat man die Schubladen herausgezogen. Höchstwahrscheinlich hatte die Frau Angst, daß wir die Schubladen stehlen könnten. Den Tisch hat man hochgestellt, damit wir ihn nicht beschmutzen können. An Waschgelegenheit hat man überhaupt nicht gedacht; eine solche müssen wir uns selbst ausfindig machen.Am Abend schickt man uns das Dienstmädchen mit einer Tasse Kaffee und einer dünnen Marmeladenstulle für jeden. Nach Meinung dieser Offiziersfrau haben deutsche Soldaten, die auch für sie jahrelang die Heimat verteidigt haben, keine bessere Behandlung verdient.
Da sind wir bei einfachen Bürgersleuten doch besser bislang aufgehoben gewesen! – einer von den Kameraden kann es sich nicht verkneifen, das Verhalten dieser deutschen Frau in einer Bonner Zeitung öffentlich anzuprangern.

We relocate to Bonn. Above all Bonn seems to be a vity of villas and mansions, a city for wealthy people. Together with two comrades, I get assigned quarters in Weberstrasse 90 at an officer's wife. Both husband and son are officers. We are placed in a garret which has been prepared with three straw mattresses. The furniture has partly been removed; from the existing pieces the drawers have been removed. Probably the woman was afraid we could steal the drawers. The table has been put aside so we are prevented from muddying it. A washing opportunity has not been thought of at all, so we have to care for it ourselves.In the evening, the house maid is sent up to us with a cup of coffee and a slim piece of bread with jam. In the opinion of this officer's wife, the german soldiers that for years defended the homeland also for her, do not deserve a better treatment.
The simple population treated us in a much better way! - One of the comrades can not deny himself but to decry this in a local newspaper.

Ci trasferiamo a Bonn. Prima di tutto Bonn sembra una città di ville e case signorili., una città per gente ricca. Io e due camerati siamo assegnati a prendere sistemazione in Weberstrasse, nr. 90, presso la moglie di un ufficiale.. Sia il marito che il figlio sono ufficiali. Ci sistemano in una soffitta approntata con tre materassi di paglia. I mobili sono stati parzialmente rimossi; sono stati tolti i cassetti. Forse la donna temeva che potessimo rubare. La tavola è stata spostata di lato per evitare di sporcarla di fango. Non hanno previsto per noi un modo per lavarci, perciò ci dobbiamo arrangiare.La sera ci mandano una cameriera con una tazza di caffè e una sottile fetta di pane con prosciutto. Secondo la moglie di questo ufficiale, soldati tedeschi che per anni hanno difeso la patria, anche per lei, non meritano un trattamento migliore.
La gente semplice ci trattò molto meglio! Uno dei camerati non esitò a denuciare i fatto su un giornale locale.
