Exerziertage im schlimmsten Sinne. Wir müssen richtiggehend schwitzen Die Unteroffiziere und Feldwebel machen sich einen Spaß daraus, die Mannschaften tüchtig zu schikanieren. Im Vergleich zu diesem Dienst war die Ausbildung in Flensburg Gold. Und die war schon schwer!

Field training day in the worst sense of the term. They really make us sweat. The NCOs take pleasure in vigorously harrassing the men. In comparison with this, the training in Flensburg was pure gold. And it was already tough!

Journée d'exercices au pire sens du terme. On nous fait vraiment transpirer. Les sous-officiers s'amusent à harceler vigoureusement les hommes. Par rapport à ceci, la formation à Flensburg était en or. Et c'était déjà dur là-bas!

Addestramento da campo nel peggior senso del termine. Ci hanno veramente fatto grondare di sudore. I sottufficiali godono a tormentare gli uomini. Paragonato a questo, l’addestramento a Flensburg era una passeggiata. E già quello era duro!

Google Maps

Dieter mochte es, kleine Karten in sein Tagebuch zu integrieren. Um Ihnen eine Übersicht über Dieters Aufenthaltsorte und zurückgelegte Strecken während seiner Teilnahme am 1.Weltkrieg zu geben, wurde eine Karte bei Google Maps generiert. Der aktuelle Aufenthaltshort ist jeweils als Anfangsposition hinterlegt.

Dieter liked to integrate little maps into his diary. To give you an overview of his whereabouts and covered distances during his participation in the Great War a special map was created via google maps. The actual position will be the starting position.

Dieter amava integrare il suo diario con piccole mappe. Per darvi un’idea dell’ambiente che lo circondava e delle distanze percorse durante la sua partecipazione alla Grande Guerra, ho preparato una mappa speciale con Google Maps. La posizione corrente sarà quella di partenza.

27. September 1916

Heute ist 50 jähriges Jubiläum des Bestehens unseres Füsilierregiments 86. Trotzdem haben wir den ganzen Tag stramm exerziert. Wieder lebhafte Fliegertätigkeit. Gegen Mittag entwickeln sich Fliegerkämpfe vor uns, denen wir interessiert zuschauen.

Today is the 50th jubilee of the creation of our 86th Fusilier Regiment. But we train hard all day just the same. Again, lively aircraft activity. Towards midday, dogfights take place in view, and we watch them with interest.

Aujourd'hui c'est le 50e jubilé de l'existence de notre 86e Régiment de Fusiliers. De nouveau, vive activité aérienne. Vers midi, des combats aériens développent sous nos yeux, et nous les regardons avec intérêt.

Oggi è il 50° anniversario della costituzione del nostro 86° Reggimento Fucilieri, ma ci fanno fare un duro addestramento lo stesso. Di nuovo vivace attività di aeroplani. Verso mezzogiorno assistiamo con interesse ad alcuni combattimenti aerei.

26. September 1916

Wieder starkes Trommelfeuer an der Front. Feindliche Flieger erscheinen in großen Scharen. Gegen Mittag zeigen sich 20 Flugzeuge. – Wir müssen uns alle einer Entlausung in der Zuckerfabrik unterziehen, obgleich wir noch gar nichts von Läusen spüren.

Again heavy continuous artillery fire at the front. Enemy aircraft appear in large formations. Around midday 20 aircraft appear. - We all have to submit to delousing in the sugar factory, even though we don't yet feel any sign of lice at all.

De nouveau tonnerre d'artillerie au front. Des avions ennemis paraissent en grandes formations. Vers midi, 20 avions se montrent. - nous devons tous nous soumettre à un épouillage dans la sucrerie, alors que jusqu'à présent nous ne sentons absolument aucune trace de poux.

Di nuovo pesante attività di artiglieria al fronte. Appaiono grosse formazioni di aeroplani nemici. A mezzogiorno ne vediamo venti. Dobbiamo anche sottoporci alla disinfestazione nello zuccherificio, anche se, per il momento, non abbiamo visto alcun segno di pidocchi.

25. September 1916

Das Trommelfeuer aus der Sommefront ist den ganzen Tag über lebhaft hörbar. Es herrscht rege Fliegertätigkeit.

The continuous thunder of artillery fire can be heard all day from the Somme front. There is lively aircraft activity.

Le tonnerre continu de l'artillerie s'entend tout au long de la journée en provenance du front de la Somme. Vive activité aérienne.

Il continuo rimbombo del fuoco di artiglieria si sente tutto il giorno sul fronte della Somme. Vivace attività di aeroplani.
