I write my request for transfer to another unit and hand it over to the company commander. 5 o'click in the afternoon, there is a K.d.F. event in the inn "Gigo" [note: K.d.F.: strength through joy]. Afterwards, there
is a film show near Hütten.

So where does Dieter want to get transferred to? Is he bored? Actually he knows what war means, so I think he should be happy with the current situation. Curious where this leads to.
AntwortenLöschenPresumably back to the regimental depot near home. At that point, the war seemed to be won: only the United Kingdom (or England/Great Britain as he would have known it) was resisting, and Göring (like Trenchard later on) thought he could win it without ground troops, so he must have felt he had done enough in the Great War, and wondered why he had to be kept in France six months after the war was effectively over. Little did he know...
AntwortenLöschenYes, that sounds like a good guess. Dieter to me did not make the impression of a war-hungry, blood-thirsty hero. Maybe this was triggered by the rumors that "older" men were to be sent home soon.
