Sonntag. Komp.
Sunday. The company squad and the 2nd platoon take a training march to Friesenrath. There, a Captain leads our visit of the firing position and the B-position of the 1st platoon. We also see a combat bunker from the inside and the outside. In the evening, we take a walk to the Schlauser Mühle stables.

AntwortenLöschenIn English military terminology, an Übungsmarsch is a "route march".
AntwortenLöschenI wonder what is the B-position: probably a fall-back position, since this was commonly used by the German army in the first world war on the western front.
The British army would regard this sort of thing as defeatist, especially at this stage of the war - and then get wiped out in the open because despite the mythology of the Retreat from Mons, they seem to have tended to regard any training for defence or "withdrawal" as unmanly.
thanks for adding this, Roger.
AntwortenLöschenYou may be right on the B-Position. Nevertheless, this could also be an alternative firing position. It can not be derived from the context.
