We depart together with the advance guard via Vöhl and Basdorf and march all along the Eder lake. The landscape is absolutely unique and we enjoy the wonderful views over the lake. It holds 202,4 million cubic metres of water. The ruins of a church rise above the water. Hills and forests are rolling all around the Eder lake. In front of us we see the wall of the dam, which is more than 37 metres high and has an enormous thickness. Behind the wall are the electric generators that provide electricity to Waldeck and the surrounding area. The dam has been completed in 1913. Our platoon passes through the little village of Waldeck and then climbs up to the castle Waldeck (Schloß Waldeck). Here, we set up our post in a large hall. Castle Waldeck is a beautiful old fortress, which is well worth paying a visit to. The view from the castle is wonderful. One can see the whole lake Eder and sees picturesque hills and neat little villages. Of course we had to sign the castle's guest book.
We are accomodated in the village.
