Frühmorgens Ankunft in Laon. Es ist noch dunkel. Wir machen uns auf den Weg nach Bruyères und melden uns dort auf der Schreibstube vom Urlaub zurück. Unser Zug liegt in Bruyères. Im Trupp ist so ziemlich alles beim alten. Wir haben ein gutes Quartier.---
In den folgenden 14 Tagen haben wir meistens gebaut, sogar permanente Leitungen. Da sich die Anordnung hierfür nachher als großer Unfug herausstellt, müssen wir diese Leitungen wieder abbauen. Welcher Unsinn mitunter doch von den leitenden Stellen verzapft wird!

The following fourteen days we mostly had spent the time building communication lines, even permanent lines. Since the order to do so turns out to be a big mischief, we have to remove those lines again. What kind of nonsense those leading ranks create!

Nei quattordici giorni precedenti avevamo trascorso tutto il tempo a costruire linee di comunicazione, anche permanenti. Adesso quell'ordine ci appare proprio come una beffa, dato che dobbiamo rimuovere di nuovo quelle linee. Che razza di assurdità anima quegli alti papaveri!
